If you are a service member and believe you have been subjected to military discrimination, make sure you are represented by a civil rights law firm you can trust. At Cronauer Law, we proudly represent service members and veterans for claims under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA).
Our Texas office in Austin is standing by and ready to assist.
The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) is a federal law that broadly prohibits employment discrimination against members of the military. USERRA offers a wide variety of protections to service members and veterans in the workplace. But most frequently, this law applies to military Reservists. Those members have the right to return to their civilian job and to continue with an ordinary career progression as if they were not serving in the military (i.e., the same seniority, status and pay, as well as other rights and benefits determined by seniority). Put another way, a Reservist cannot be punished by their civilian employer for serving in the Reserve. Service members whose rights are violated can sue.

Yes. Texas has its own laws that offer similar protections to USERRA. Thus, military members in Texas may also be able to pursue claims based on Government Code, section 437.204, or Government Code, Chapter 613.
These laws are nuanced and do not always apply, but it is important for Texans to at least be aware of the additional protections offered. That's why it is important to choose a civil rights law firm and attorney with experience in military discrimination, such as USERRA lawyer Ross A. Brennan at Cronauer Law in Austin.
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a well-known law that offers a variety of protections to military members aimed at lessening the burdens of service.
Anyone who has served (or has a loved one who has served) in the military knows that it can be extremely difficult. Frequent moves and constant travel can make seemingly-mundane tasks of life challenging. For instance, what if a military member signs a 12-month lease, but then 2-months later is transferred to a different duty station? Or what if a military member is sued while they are deployed, leaving them unable to appear and defend themselves in court? Well, the SCRA has answers to those questions.
The SCRA offers a wide range of protections for topics such as lease termination, security deposits, prepaid rent, eviction, installment contracts, credit card interest rates, mortgage interest rates, mortgage foreclosure, gym memberships, and lien enforcement. Perhaps the biggest protection offered by the SCRA is the prohibition of default judgments against military members, unless very specific criteria are met.
If you have experienced military discrimination and need an SCRA lawyer, contact our Texas office in Austin today.
