In December 2015 our client, underwent a routine hernia repair at Northwestern Medicine-Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, Ill.
After this hernia repair surgery, his blood pressure dropped and he complained of severe abdominal pain. plaintiff’s family asked the surgeon to check in on our client, but the surgeon allegedly said that he would not do so until he was finished with other patients.
Several had passed before the surgeon performed an exploratory surgery and found Burke’s abdomen was full of blood. Post surgery , plaintiff’s wife noticed her husband had weakness on the left side of his face, he was unable to fully open his left eye, his lip was drooping and his speech was slurred. She urged the Hospital something was wrong, but they did not find this alarming.
The next day, our client’s condition worsened. He was unable to eat or drink. Another doctor examined our client and determined that he had suffered a stroke overnight. More specifically, an acute thrombosis with ischemic infarction of the middle cerebral artery, also known as a middle cerebral artery stroke. The stroke had caused irreversible damage.
According to the experts of Cronauer Law, the stroke caused damage to 80% of his right brain. This rendered our client bedridden, paralyzed on his left side and unable to logically converse.
Before this unfortunate incident, our client owned an auto repair shop and was a property manager. His wife found legal representation with Nicholas Cronauer, from Cronauer Law to bring a case against the hospital and the surgeon.
